Paul V (Borghese) was head of the Catholic Church from 1605. He was painted by Caravaggio. He made Cardinal Richelieu a bishop, met with Galileo Galilei and beautified Ignatius of Loyola. In 1606 he excommunicated the entire government of Venice. He completed St Peter's Basilica and founded the Bank of the Holy Spirit.
Scipione Borghese collected homoerotic art at Villa Borghese and was the patron of Caravaggio and Bernini who made a statue of Apollo and Daphne and a statue of a sleeping hermaphrodite. He was protector of the Dominicans. He bought Raphael's portrait of Julius II.
Camillo Borgese was a Knight of Order of the Golden Fleece and Legion of Honour, related to Napoleon through his wife Pauline Bonaparte and godfather of Camillo Benso, the first prime minister of Italy.

His son Paolo Borghese married Olimpija Aldobrandini (related to pope Gregory XV). She later married Camillo Pamphili, related to pope Innocent X.
