Corliss Lamont

Corliss Lamont was a marxist and supporter of Joseph Stalin, and a friend of Julian Huxley (United Nations). He was the son of Thomas Lamont (JP Morgan, CFR, Federal Reserve, Paris Peace Conference). He was educated at elite school Philips Exteter Academy, Oxford and at Columbia University under John Dewey (like Sidney Hook (CCNY, CCF, ACCF) with Max Eastman (ACCF). He was a teacher at Cornell, Columbia and The New School. From 1932 he was director of the American Civil Liberties Union.

In 1936 he founded Marxist Quarterly. After the Dewey Commission condemned the Moscow trials of Leon Trotsky, he defended Joseph Stalin.

In 1944 he founded the National Council of Soviet-American Friendship, sponsored by Charlie Chaplin. The council organized a rally at Madison Square Garden with Hollywood celebrities Orson Welles, Rita Hayworth, Katharine Hepburn. Vice-chairman Ralph Barton Perry was a student of William James (Theosophical Society), also the teacher of Walter Lippmann and W.E.B. Du Bois (NAACP).

John Randolph, president of the council from 1988, played in Seconds of John Frankenheimer about mind control, In Prizzi's Honor as father of Jack Nicholson, in A Foreign Field with Jeanne Moreau and Lauren Bacall and in You've Got Mail as grandfather of Tom Hanks. He also played the father of Roseanne Barr in ABC show Roseanne.

In 1949 he published The Philosophy of Humanism. He was called to testify before jesuit Joseph McCarthy.

He signed the 2nd Humanist Manifesto with Julian Huxley, Sidney Hook, Betty Friedan, BF Skinner, Isaac Asimov.

Like Margaret Sanger, Julian Huxley, Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, BF Skinner, Erich Fromm, Gloria Steinem, Jonas Salk, Ashley Montagu, Bill Nye, Alice Walker, Carl Sagan, Ted Turner, Steven Pinker, Murray Gell-Man, Anthony Fauci, he was named Humanist of the Year.

His cousin Ned Lamont, also trained at Philips Exteter, was governor of Connecticut. He served on the board of YMCA and Brookings and worked on the presidential campaign of Barack Obama. He worked with Jane Mayer (Dark Money about Koch family). His father Edward Lamont helped designing the Marshall Plan and worked for the Nixon administration.
