Elihu Root

Elihu Root was a lawyer of the Carnegie's, Edward Harriman (father of W Averell Harriman S&B), William Whitney, who served as Senator from NY (supporter of W Howard Taft S&B), US Secretary of War and Secretary of State under Theodore Roosevelt (colonies Philippines and Cuba). He was a classmate of G Stanley Hall (American Psychological Association, SPR) and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was chairman of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace from 1910 to 1925, succeeded by Nicolas Butler.

Woodrow Wilson sent him on a mission to Russia with Charles Edward Russell (NAACP). He was a member of the Pilgrims Society and JP Morgan's Corsair Club with Cornelius Vanderbilt. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912. He married the daughter of Salem Wales of Scientific American.

He was a member of the Union League Club of Henry Whitney Bellows.

He founded the Council on Foreign Relations in 1918.

He was the mentor of Henry Stimson (S&B, CFR, Secretary of War during the WW1 and WW2 ritual). His lawyer firm became Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts and eventually Pilsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman.
