Emil Kraepelin
Emil Kraepelin was a German psychiatrist who played a role in the Mental Health Industry and eugenics agenda. He was educated at Leipzig University (with Wilhelm Wundt), University of Würzburg and University of Munich by Bernhard von Gudden (physician of Ludwig II of Bavaria, also the teacher of Auguste-Henri Forel). He worked under neurologist Wilhelm Erb. His German Institute for Psychiatric Research was funded by James Loeb. He trained Henry Cotton, also a student of eugenicist Adolf Meyer (Eugenics Record Office). With Alois Alzheimer he described Alzheimer's disease, caused by mercury poisoning in alchemy. His term dementia praecox was later replaced with Eugen Blueler's term schizophrenia. He introduced the term bipolar disorder, as separated from schizophrenia. He influenced the International Classification of Diseases of the WHO. His ideology of racial hygiene is often seen as a contributing factor of the policy of nazi Germany. | ![]() |
