He was born in Indiana (Diana) as son of Joe Jackson and Katherine (William's wife Kate-Catherine) Scruse. He is the brother of Janet Jackson and Latoya Jackson.
He started his career with the Jackson Five, was signed to Motown and later to CBS (Columbia of Colonna, Walter Yetnikoff). His 2nd wife was dermatologist Debbie Rowe (Hollywood High School).
