Uruguay

Uruguay is a country in South America, founded in 1825, by declaring its independance from Brazil, with a population of 3,5 million people. Its capital and largest city is Montevideo. It is a member of the United Nations. It is a dictatorship, ruled by the Jesuits. It has the 80th largest GDP.

 

 

History of Uruguay

1512 Portugese colonists (Catholic Church) reach Uruguay.

1669 the Portugese build Colonia del Sacramento.

1811 José Gervasio Artigas defeats the Spanish.

1825 declaration of independance from Brazil.

1882 the jesuits establish Catholic University of Uruguay.

1967 establishment of left wing guerilla movement Tupamaros. Jorge Pacecho as president.

1970 the Tupamaros execute Dan Mitrione (CIA agent who worked with Jim Jones).

1971 founding of Frente Amplio.

1973 coup d'etat (year of military coup in Chile on 9/11, after wich Allende is replaced by Augusto Pinochet).

2018 El Pepe of Emir Kustarica about José Mujica. Luis Sarez is used in the sport industry (Atlético Madrid).

2020 jesuit Luis Lacalle Pou as president.
